LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced an addition to her office Wednesday with the appointment of Solomon Rivera as deputy chief of staff for strategy.

Over the past two decades, the mayor said in a statement, she has worked with Rivera in her different capacities — “as a community organizer, as Speaker of the state Assembly and as a member of Congress.”

The mayor said she looks forward to working with Rivera “now in City Hall to move our city forward.”

As deputy chief of staff, Rivera will develop and oversee the community engagement component of the mayor’s office, in addition to overseeing neighborhood services, including Los Angeles Public Libraries, Recreation and Parks, Neighborhood Empowerment and Animal Services.

Rivera will also guide outreach on key issues and work to build partnerships to advance the goals of Bass’ administration, according to the mayor’s office.

Previously, Rivera served as chief of staff for Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson.

“Solomon Rivera taking on this new role signifies the recognition of his hard work and expertise,” Harris-Dawson said in a statement. “This opportunity marks another juncture in his career where he can make meaningful combinations that will have a profound impact on the people of Los Angeles.”

Rivera said in a statement he’s proud of his contributions to pass Proposition HHH to build houses for Angelenos and programs that supported South L.A.

“I am confident that we will continue to support each other as we strive to create a more equitable and inclusive Los Angeles,” he said.
