INGLEWOOD – Asm. Tina McKinnor celebrated the news that Gov. Gavin Newsom signed one of her bills into law related to the upcoming 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“As Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, I am proud to partner with Governor Gavin Newsom on my AB 2411, establishing the California Olympic and Paralympic Public Safety Command,” said Assemblymember Tina McKinnor. “As Los Angeles prepares to welcome the world in 2028, we must make sure our athletes, visitors, workers and communities are safe and that our public safety agencies are coordinated and prepared.”
AB 2411 requires the California Office of Emergency Services to negotiate and enter into agreements with state, local, and out-of-state law enforcement agencies regarding temporary deployment to support the public safety demands of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Establishes a temporary certification and training program through the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training for out-of-state law enforcement personnel assisting with security during the games.
SoFi Stadium, which is located in McKinnor’s district, is scheduled to co-host the games’ opening ceremonies and multiple events.
Newsom signed multiple bills related to the Olympic Games in front of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, surrounded by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, McKinnor, and a host of other dignitaries.
“The Golden State is in the middle of a historic run of sporting events, and these bills allow the state the ability to continue to deliver for fans and athletes alike — all across the world,” said Newsom.
AB 2436 was authored by Asm. Mike Fong and extends the current exemption allowing Team USA student-athletes training in California to receive resident tuition classification.
“California has long stood as a premier destination for excellence in education, training, and athletic achievement,” said Assemblymember Fong. “As we look ahead to the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, it is more important than ever that we make a lasting commitment to the Team USA athletes who train here. I thank Governor Newsom and LA28 for their leadership and commitment to ensuring California remains an enduring part of our nation’s Olympic and Paralympic legacy.”
AB 191 implements temporary statutory amendments to ensure the successful and timely delivery of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and to meet the unique operational demands of this global event.
The signing adds an additional $7 million to the $96.5 million investment announced earlier this summer to upgrade and modernize Exposition Park, which is set to become the first venue to host three different Summer Olympic Games.

In addition to the 2028 Olympics and several World Cup matches earlier this year, the Los Angeles area will play host to the Super Bowl on Feb. 14, 2027.
