HUNTINGTON BEACH – Authorities Friday identified a 93-year-old woman who was fatally injured when the car she was driving collided with another vehicle in Huntington Beach. The crash occurred about 4:40 p.m. May 11 at Magnolia Street and Garfield Avenue, the Huntington Beach Police Department reported. Mary Margaret Machulda of Fountain Valley died at UCI Medical Center, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dipped slightly to 4.9% in April, down from a revised 5% in March, according to figures released Friday by the state Employment Development Department. The 4.9% rate was the same as April 2022. In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the April unemployment rate was 3%, down from 3.4% the previous month. LOS ANGELES – An arraignment hearing scheduled Thursday was postponed until Monday for a Los Angeles man who barricaded himself in his car after he allegedly attempted to rob a bank in Koreatown. Oscar Canales, 24, was charged with attempted bank robbery in an indictment filed last week in Los Angeles federal court, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. COMPTON – Authorities Thursday identified a man who was fatally at a Compton store where he worked. Kamal Mohamed, 66, of San Pedro was shot about 10:55 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of West Rosecrans Avenue, and he died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
