LOS ANGELES — A diverse cross-section of Los Angeles’ most forward-thinking housing, climate, and urban policy advocates came together this week for the Fourth & Central Support Coalition Mixer, signaling growing momentum behind one of the region’s most ambitious and community-rooted development efforts.
Held in the heart of the Arts District, the event brought together supporters, neighbors, and organizational leaders to celebrate and organize around the Fourth & Central project — a visionary mixed-use development that promises to deliver thousands of homes, good-paying jobs, and vibrant public spaces in one of LA’s most underutilized corners.
“The energy in the room was electric,” said Zachary Pitts, Head of YIMBY Action LA. “Fourth & Central is about more than just housing — it’s about showing that Los Angeles is ready to step up and tackle our biggest regional challenges head on.”
The project, which will bring thousands of new homes, including more than 250 affordable units, alongside transit, culture, and green space, has quickly become a rallying point for advocates of livability, sustainability, and inclusive urbanism.
“This project symbolizes what it means to do big things — responsibly, inclusively, and with a clear eye toward our shared future,” said Chris Rhie, Board Member of Urban Environmentalists. “We’re not just talking about buildings. We’re talking about a healthier, more sustainable, and more equitable Los Angeles.”
From climate resilience to economic opportunity, Fourth & Central has been hailed as a model for how cross-sector collaboration can foster urban policy solutions to our region’s most pressing challenges.
“It was incredible to see such a wide range of supporters — renters, small business owners, environmentalists, artists — all in one space, all excited and engaged,” said Tyler Laferriere, President of LA New Liberals. “This is what a movement looks like: united, energized, and focused on the future.”
Organizers emphasized that the diversity of the support speaks to the depth and breadth of the project’s potential impact — and the urgency of pushing it forward.
“Fourth & Central reflects what our movement is all about,” said Leslie Ridings, Board Member of Abundant Housing LA. “It’s forward-looking, rooted in community, and thoughtfully addresses the most pressing challenges Downtown and our city faces head on. As a resident of Downtown Los Angeles, I’m proud to support this project.”
Proposed for a 7.6-acre site at 4th Street and Central Avenue, the plans for Fourth & Central call for 1,589 residential units with a minimum of 249 affordable units, along with 401,000 square feet of creative office space and 145,748 square feet of retail/restaurant space.
Fourth & Central proposes a resilient, sustainable community that will provide a variety of housing options and jobs. A master plan of the site proposes a total of 10 distinct buildings. Ranging in height from 2 to 30 stories, the structures house residential units, along with new office, retail, and restaurant space, plus substantial public open space on the street level linking the buildings to the surrounding neighborhoods.
