Inglewood mayor called out by residents for lying about public safety issues

INGLEWOOD – Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. continues to be called out by residents for lying about public safety issues.

The latest surrounds an Inglewood resident letting off explosions in the north end of the city.

The mayor began by providing an update on the events that transpired on Christmas Day as the result of a “knucklehead” with the explosion resulting in over a half dozen residents windows being blown out and the mayor pretending he knew how the Inglewood Police Department responded.

When residents challenged the mayor’s narration of events, instead of taking accountability he does what he does best – throws others under the bus.

“😂😂😂 This Is Crazy. He just flipped his officers instead of taking full accountability for his report. 😂😂😂 This is crazy, what’s more crazy is the fact he is always called on the carpet by URBAN GIRLS!!”

He blamed the Inglewood Police Department for relaying misinformation to him despite taxpayers making Fronterotta one of the highest-paid police chiefs in Southern California.

(L-R) Officer Javier Mosely, Inglewood Police Chief Mark Fronterotta, and Acting Chief Cardell Hurt at the swearing-in ceremony for Councilwoman Gloria Gray on Apr. 29, 2023, at Inglewood City Hall. Fronterotta is observed in full uniform and carrying a service weapon while on medical leave after suffering an intracranial brain hemorrhage months earlier.

Inglewood Police Chief Mark Fronterotta suffered an intracranial brain hemorrhagein early 2023 that resulted in him being off work for close to a year. He was allowed to carry a service weapon in public during the swearing-in ceremony for District 1 Councilwoman Gloria Gray despite being on medical leave and not cleared to return to work.

  • Inglewood scrambles to justify paying its police chief an extra $61,000 annually for taking a 2-week course

According to publicly available documents, Fronterotta wasn’t required to take a psychological fitness exam to return to work, however, he has referred two members of the department for the exam after one was caught being at work drunk and the other that “replied all” to a department email that announced the retirement of a Lieutenant with close ties to the mayor.

As a direct result of the police chief’s health, it appears that public safety issues are being swept under the rug while the mayor continues to pretend to be the City’s de facto police chief and public information officer.

The problem is we can’t trust a word he’s saying.
