LOS ANGELES (SBE) – The County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation invites the community to its Juneteenth festivities at five county parks on June 17 and June 18, celebrating Black culture and community achievements.

Entertainment performances will feature Black artists and musicians such as Caribbean concert band, Island Passion Band (El Cariso Park), independent creatives from Soulful of Noise (Mayberry Park), R&B group Champaign (Belvedere Park) and singer, songwriter and producer, Sydney Ranee (Jackie Robinson Park). The events will also include food from local vendors, sports tournaments, workshops and much more.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate Juneteenth at our LA County Parks,” said Norma García-González, Director of the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation. “The spotlight is placed on the incredible local Black organizations and community, bringing everyone together to celebrate.”

“It is inspiring to see this event grow each year across Los Angeles County. Through these Juneteenth Celebrations we are centering Black voices, artistry, and businesses while creating a space for acknowledging our shared history and commitment to progress.” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, Second District.

“It brings me a lot of joy to see our community come together to celebrate Juneteenth,” said Kathryn Barger, Los Angeles County Supervisor for the Fifth District. “Our Board of Supervisors is committed to making this celebration an annual tradition and supporting African American owned businesses and artists throughout the year. Leveraging our yearlong LA County Parks programming is one way we can tackle both of these goals.”

Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger (Fifth District) will be in attendance on June 17 at Jackie Robinson Park 8773 E Avenue R, Littlerock, CA 93543 and Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, will be in attendance on June 18 at Jesse Owens Park (9AM-4PM) 9651 South Western Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90047.
