Businesses, residents left in dark on Relocation Plan for Inglewood Transit Connector project

The Inglewood Transit Connector Joint Powers Authority (ITCJPA) will convene Feb. 14 to discuss relocation plans of dozens of small businesses and possibly residents without sufficient input from the public

Lead consultant Trifiletti Consulting has not done thorough outreach to residents and businesses who will be directly impacted by the project.

The city council has authorized the installation of dozens of digital billboards throughout the City that are significant campaign donors to Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts and they do not alert residents to the important meetings taking place that are designed to displace them. In fact, they are only used to promote events the elected officials have which are designed to keep residents in the dark about what’s really going on.

Metro is also slated to install nearly 100 digital billboards throughout Los Angeles County under the premise of using them to alert drivers to “traffic congestion” which they currently do not provide to Inglewood residents, particularly during large-scale events that create significant traffic congestion to the 9 square mile City.

Inglewood City Manager Artie Fields, Assistant City Manager Luis Atwell, and Inglewood City Clerk Aisha Thompson attend the ITCJPA meetings and never provide updates to the residents during weekly city council meetings.

The Feb. 14 ITCJPA agenda says the Relocation Plan was made available to residents on Feb. 1 but how would residents know that?

During the Jan. 31 regular city council meeting, the city council moved to set the Public Hearing on the Relocation Plan to March 7 and 14 but failed to alert the residents that the plan would be available the following day.

The City’s Jan. 31 staff report listed both March 7 and March 14 for the public hearing in this staff report.

The mayor is paid an annual salary in excess of $100,000 and council members earn around $60,000 per year to keep residents abreast of such things and they don’t. They tell us “well it’s on the website” and half the time the mayor doesn’t heed his own advice when he regularly shows up to meetings not having read the agenda in front of him. Fields was just given a contract extension, with a buyout clause, so what does he care?

The city clerk is currently spending $12,900 to run radio ads on KJLH talking about the importance of voting rights and “standing on the shoulders of Barack Obama and whatnot” with taxpayer dollars but fails to mention some residents are voting next month and this project could impact them. How is that protecting their right to vote? This also explains her nearly $1,000 pay raise a mere 10 months after she was elected in Nov. 2020.

Inglewood’s leadership being paid to suppress information is the only logical conclusion one can come to.

Inglewood’s leadership is a JOKE and don’t think the woman running against Councilman George Dotson next month is any better because she’s not warning any of you either.
