LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles City Council voted 8-4 Tuesday to approve the donation of a so-called robot dog for use by the Los Angeles Police Department following more than an hour of public comment against the device and criticism from a council member. The council moved to accept the donation with an amendment introduced by Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky to ensure the LAPD provide quarterly reports regarding the deployment of the device, outcomes of the deployment and any issues pertaining to the use of it. LOS ANGELES – A judge has approved a nearly $1 million settlement in favor of a 15-year-old girl in a lawsuit brought on her behalf against the Rowland Unified School District, in which she alleged a teacher sexually abused her. Los Angeles Superior Court Barbara M. Scheper gave her nod to the accord during a hearing Monday. The RUSD will pay $950,000 with about $495,000 being allocated to the girl, identified only as Jane RPV Doe, in an annuity after attorneys’ fees and other expenses are deducted. LONG BEACH – Long Beach police Tuesday released “critical incident video” in connection with an April shooting by police near the site of the Acura Grand Prix that left a man wounded. LONG BEACH – A man was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder and other charges for fleeing in a stolen van from police and striking an SUV, killing a local dog walker and five of the six canines she was transporting. Along with the murder charge, Javier Olivarez Jr. was found guilty of six counts of animal cruelty and one count each of evading a police officer causing death and driving or taking a vehicle without consent. LOS ANGELES – Officials at Los Angeles General Medical Center sought the public’s help Tuesday to identify a patient. Hospital officials circulated a photo of the patient, who was brought to the facility on Thursday. He was described as being about 25 years of age, weighing 135 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. LONG BEACH – A man was killed and paramedics rushed two people to a trauma center from an overturned vehicle crash Saturday morning in Long Beach, authorities said. Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 2:29 a.m to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and State Route 103, the Long Beach Fire Department reported. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken to a hospital. The deceased victim was a man who was a passenger inside the vehicle, according to spokesman Richard Mejia of the Long Beach Police Department. No further information was immediately available.

LOS ANGELES – Authorities have announced arrests in connection with an “ambush-style” shooting on Jan. 28 in the Beverly Crest area that left three women dead. Iyana Hutton, 33, of Chicago; Nenah Davis, 29, of Boilingbrook, Illinois; and Destiny Sims, 26, of Buckeye, Arizona, were fatally shot in a parked car in the 2700 block of North Ellison Drive, according to the LAPD. LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles City Council Tuesday delayed a vote until Wednesday on a resolution seeking to expand the city’s anti-camping law to include two streets in the Third District. Councilman Bob Blumenfield introduced a resolution seeking to expand the city’s anti-camping law, known as section 41.18, to incorporate 5400 Alhama Drive and 5416 Comercio Way. The law allows the city to designate specified areas for enforcement to prevent sitting, lying, sleeping, storing, maintaining, placing personal property and otherwise obstructing the public right-of-way. LOS ANGELES – Police Tuesday were continuing their investigation into an apparent road rage shooting near Marina del Rey that left one man dead.
