VAN NUYS, Calif. – A bicyclist in his 40s who police said they saw with a firearm as they attempted to detain him was shot by Los Angeles Police Department officers Tuesday in Van Nuys. The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. near Victory Boulevard and Tyrone Avenue. The suspect ran southbound on Tyrone Avenue when officers shot at him again, police said. The suspect was wounded and taken into custody, police said. He is hospitalized in stable condition. There were no reports of officers or bystanders sustaining any injuries during the shooting. LOS ANGELES – In recognition of Black History Month, the Los Angeles Police Department Tuesday honored the late Officer Randal Simmons, the agency’s first SWAT officer to die in the line of duty. Simmons, a 27-year LAPD veteran, was fatally shot Feb. 7, 2008, as officers stormed a Winnetka home at the end of a 10-hour standoff with a triple murder suspect, who was himself killed by police. SANTA ANA, Calif. – A 42-year-old man was charged Tuesday with breaking into two homes in Costa Mesa and sexually assaulting one woman and exposing himself to other victims. Jorge A. Henriqueztrigueros was charged with single counts each of assault with the intent to commit a sex offense, burglary, and attempted burglary, as well as two counts of indecent exposure, all felonies. LOS ANGELES – The City Council adopted an ordinance Tuesday requiring landlords to pay relocation assistance to tenants in Los Angeles who move out following certain rent increases.
