BURBANK – The Burbank-based Walt Disney Co. will slash 7,000 jobs as part of a $5.5 billion cost-cutting effort, CEO Bob Iger announced Wednesday. The possibility of layoffs at Disney has been rumored for weeks, with Iger regaining his footing in the CEO’s office following the surprise ouster of CEO Bob Chapek in November. LOS ANGELES – A notice of a tentative settlement was filed Wednesday in a case brought against Los Angeles Unified alleging a girl, now 16 years old, was molested by an after-school program counselor when she was 11 in 2017. Lawyers for the LAUSD stated in their Los Angeles Superior Court papers that the settlement of the case brought on behalf of the plaintiff identified only as S.C. was “conditional” and dependent upon the completion of unspecified events. MAR VISTA, Calif.- A man, a woman and a cat were killed in fire that swept through a one-story home Wednesday in Mar Vista. Fire crews responded at 2:22 a.m. to a 1,096-square-foot home at 3537 S. May St. where they found the home completely engulfed in flames and quickly began extinguishing the fire, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. After the fire was out firefighters began a search of the residence and found the victims and the cat. It took 20 firefighters 22 minutes to extinguish the fire, Humphrey said. No other injuries were reported.

LOS ANGELES – An Encino chiropractor has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years behind bars for his role in a multimillion-dollar scheme involving former NBA players to defraud the basketball league’s health plan, according to court papers obtained Wednesday. LAKE BALBOA, Calif. – Two people were killed Wednesday in a high-speed two- vehicle collision in Lake Balboa that police said was caused by a motorist who went through a red light at an intersection. WESTMINSTER – A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and killed Wednesday on the Garden Grove (22) Freeway in the Westminster area. The person was injured at about 5:15 a.m. on the westbound freeway at Beach Boulevard and died at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol. SYLMAR, Calif. – A man was wounded in a shooting in Sylmar Tuesday evening and the suspect fled from police. Mission Division officers responded at 9:50 p.m. to the intersection of Glenoaks Boulevard and Hubbard Street where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Mike Lopez. Officers pursued a suspect on foot but have not been able to apprehend him, KCAL reported. LAPD has called a helicopter to assist with the pursuit.
