VENICE – A murder suspect was arrested Tuesday following a nearly four-hour standoff at a Venice motel. Officers descended on the two-story Lincoln Inn motel on Lincoln Boulevard south of Venice Boulevards around 1:15 p.m., with the suspect believed to be barricaded inside, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. No information was immediately provided about the suspect or the killing for which the person is suspected. Officers set up positions around the motel, with a helicopter circling above. LOS ANGELES – There were 16 police shootings by the Los Angeles Police Department in the second half of 2022, on pace with the average number of shootings in the last six years, the department reported Tuesday to the Board of Police Commissioners. The average number of police shootings per year between 2016 and 2021 was 34.5. VAN NUYS – Authorities sought the public’s help Tuesday to solve the shooting death of a man whose body was found in an alley in Van Nuys. The body was discovered at about 7 a.m. Monday near the 14500 block of Calvert Street, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. LOS ANGELES – The City Council Tuesday voted 13-0 to eliminate the COVID-19 testing requirement for unvaccinated Los Angeles city employees. Currently, city employees who are not vaccinated against the virus must receive an exemption and undergo weekly testing. Under the resolution, the testing requirement ends, but the vaccination mandate remains unchanged. City staff, however, told the council’s Personnel, Audits and Hiring Committee last week that the city was in the process of granting exemptions for unvaccinated employees to return to work. LOS ANGELES – A jury has rejected a retaliation lawsuit brought by a veteran Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy who sued the county, alleging he was subjected to backlash for reporting that he saw a retired deputy involved in a sex act in a car parked on county property.
