PICO RIVERA – A pedestrian was killed Monday morning on the San Gabriel River (605)  Freeway in Pico Rivera. The death occurred just after 3 a.m. in the southbound lanes at Rose Hills Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service. The name, age and gender of the pedestrian were not available, Kravig said. Details of the crash were also not available. LONG BEACH – A man was hospitalized Monday morning in serious condition with wounds suffered in a shooting in Long Beach. The shooting was reported at 2:07 a.m. near Pacific Avenue and Broadway, according to Long Beach police Lt. Michael Deprete. PALMDALE – A man crashed his sedan into the back of a Palmdale sheriff’s deputy’s SUV Monday morning and was arrested shortly after he ran away from the scene. The hit-and-run crash occurred at 12:27 a.m. at Sixth Street East and Palmdale Boulevard, Palmdale sheriff’s Lt. Jeffrey Rhea told City News Service. ANAHEIM – A woman was killed Sunday when a tree fell onto an SUV in which she was sitting at an Anaheim park. The tree toppled at 2:50 p.m. when the woman was parked on the south side of Pearson Park, at 400 N. Harbor Boulevard, said Anaheim police Sgt. Jon McClintock. Anaheim police officers and firefighters worked to free the woman from the vehicle in hopes of saving her life but she was pronounced dead at the scene, McClintock said. No other injuries were reported. An investigation was underway to determine why the tree fell, he said.

LOS ANGELES – Richard Belzer, the comic and actor known for his standup career in the 1970s and ’80s and long runs on the television shows “Homicide: Life on the Street” and “Law & Order: SVU,” has died at the age of 78, it was reported Sunday.
