LONG BEACH – Long Beach Airport’s historic terminal will temporarily close beginning this week for a year-long renovation that includes a seismic retrofit and restoration of many of its classic 1941 design elements. Ricardo Castro, 28, pleaded not guilty in downtown Los Angeles to one count each of murder, vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving causing great bodily injury in connection with the Nov. 3, 2021, crash. NORTH HOLLYWOOD – A man riding a scooter was hit by a vehicle and killed in the North Hollywood area Wednesday. The man, in his 20s, was injured about 12:50 a.m. on Vineland Avenue near Riverside Drive, and he died at the scene, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. Information on his identity was not immediately available. According to police, the man was southbound on Vineland Avenue in the bike lane when he was hit from behind by a southbound vehicle. The motorist remained at the scene, and the crash was under investigation.

ENCINO – A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday evening in a crash with an SUV on the eastbound Ventura Freeway in Encino. The motorcyclist was trapped fully beneath the SUV and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The crash occurred around 7:55 p.m. near the Haskell Avenue off-ramp, Stewart said. The motorcyclist’s name was not released. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
