Compton College recently released Compton College 2035, a comprehensive master plan that will guide the college for the next 10 years and beyond. This plan reflects the college’s dedication to becoming the leading institution for student learning and success in higher education, linking planning efforts to the budget and providing clear direction for all initiatives and programs.
Compton College 2035 continues the work of its predecessor, Compton College 2024, by integrating equity into all areas of institutional planning. The new document is centered on a singular goal: accelerate student completion while advancing equity and success. To achieve this, Compton College 2035 sets roadmaps to strengthen academic programs, enhance student support services, and promote ongoing growth in enrollment and facilities.
“Compton College 2035 aligns with our goal to meet the needs of our diverse student body, particularly students of color and those from our community,” said Compton College President/CEO Keith Curry. “We believe that every student is a success story, and at Compton College, they can find the tools and support they need to achieve their goals and pursue a bright future.”
A priority outlined in Compton College 2035 is reimagining campus infrastructure and ensuring that students have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources. The Facilities Plan is also part of Compton College 2035, highlighting completed projects and other projects currently under construction. This construction is critical – many of the buildings on campus were built in the 1950s. Some have been renovated or replaced with new facilities in the following decades. However, the original facilities that remain need renovation and/or replacement.
Several construction projects are currently underway throughout the campus, including the new Student Housing, which celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony earlier this year. This entirely new facility is designed to accommodate 251 students and is scheduled to be completed in summer 2027.
We anticipate the construction of new Physical Education and Visual Performing Arts complexes to begin in 2025. These complexes are funded via state facility bonds, and from the 2014 Measure C facilities bond funds.
We are also moving forward with the planning and design of projects funded by Measure CC, a $200 million facilities bond measure approved by voters on November 5, 2024, with a 68.7% approval rating.
Measure CC 2024 projects include:
• New Urgent Care/Community Health Clinic
• New Student Union
• New Basic Needs Center (renovation of Building D)
• New Instructional Building 3 (Science Building)
• Stadium Improvements
• New Physical Education Fields
• Quad Development
• Parking Improvements
• Infrastructure Upgrades
• Landscape Improvements
• New Memorial Garden
“Compton College 2035 represents a transformative vision for our campus, ensuring that our students have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources,” said Andres Ramos, president of the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees. “The Comprehensive Master Plan and the Facilities Plan are critical components of this vision, addressing the urgent need to renovate and replace outdated infrastructure. With the support of Measure CC, we are excited to see the progress of several key projects, including new student housing, a community health clinic, and a modern student union.”
Compton College 2035 will take a documented, transparent approach to implementing all goals and objectives. Each milestone will be celebrated as the college continues to build a thriving academic community that supports the well-being and success of our students and the surrounding community.
