On January 2, 2025, seven gaming tribes, including Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, Pechanga Band of Mission Indians, and Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, among others, filed a lawsuit in Sacramento Superior Court against over 70 California cardrooms under California’s new special interest legislation, Senate Bill 549 (SB 549).
“We are confident that California’s cardrooms are operating table games in full compliance with the law, just as they have done for decades,” said California Gaming Association President Kyle Kirkland.
Cardrooms offer tens of thousands of good-paying jobs, pay hundreds of millions in taxes, support local communities, are licensed by the State, subject to extensive regulatory oversight, and offer legal games that have been reviewed and approved by the California Department of Justice. This attempt by tribal casinos to shut down lawful competition by tax-paying California businesses will fail.”
Hollywood Park Casino, located in Inglewood, is proud to have served the Inglewood and surrounding communities since 1994, offering a variety of State-approved table games. It employs 641 hardworking individuals and contributes over $5.142 million annually to essential services in Inglewood”
“It is disappointing that the tribes have targeted Hollywood Park Casino in this lawsuit. This is a direct attack on our community, our employees, and our long-standing operations, and we will vigorously defend Hollywood Park Casino’s ability to continue to provide these popular, State-approved games,” said Hollywood Park Casino General Manager, Deven Kumar.
