INGLEWOOD – The City has indicated crime is up significantly around the Inglewood Sports and Entertainment District (ISED) according to documents related to a Special Use Permit (SUP) application scheduled for a Public Hearing on February 7.
LA-based pizza concept Social Pies is scheduled to have their application heard for approval to allow the on-site service of alcohol and beer.
The Planning Commission Agenda Report takes into account the number of existing alcohol licenses issued in the immediate area and crime statistics for the subject site.
“In the subject Crime Report District (CRD) No. 1-27, the crime rate increased from 26 incidents in 2020 to 184 incidents in 2022. The subject site [1245 South District Drive] has had zero instances,” according to the report.
This indicates that although there are no incidents recorded where Social Pies will be located, assaults, larceny and motor vehicle thefts are up significantly since the opening of SoFi Stadium to the public in 2021.
The Inglewood Police Department has scrubbed its crime stats from its website and transitioned to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), which changes how the department collects and reports data (1985 – present).
The report indicates the restaurant will provide state-of-the-art security systems inside the building, in addition to the 24-hour security provided by the retail center.
On-site security has literally watched two people drown in the lake outside of SoFi Stadium and numerous fights inside the venue have been caught on camera with no security in sight.
It was reported two weeks ago that across the street, at Cork & Batter, a targeted robbery took place while guests dined and watched football.
