INGLEWOOD – A man has been sentenced to 125 years in prison for shooting an off-duty Inglewood police officer in March 2022.
Marquis Wilkerson, 27, was sentenced to 117 years and 8 months to life in prison plus an additional 8 years in prison by a Superior Court Judge.
Wilkerson faced multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, kidnapping, and spousal assault, at the time of his arrest.
Wilkerson was convicted on all charges he faced except the attempted murder of an officer.
Due to a change in laws, Wilkerson would be eligible for elder parole when he turns 60.
Inglewood officer Marcco Ware was shot the morning of March 31, 2022, while reportedly trying to help a family member retrieve property in the unincorporated area of Lennox.
He was shot about 10:15 a.m. in a residential alley near Lennox Boulevard and Osage Avenue, authorities said. He was hit in the leg and arm. He made a full recovery and returned to work this year.
