INGLEWOOD – The family and loved ones of Ivan Solis Mora protested in Inglewood after officers killed him on Sept. 22.
Inglewood police officers responded to the 10000 block of Grevillea Avenue around 1 p.m. after learning of a man “brandishing a knife” in front of a home in the area.
Officers say that they attempted to de-escalate the situation, using less-than-lethal methods like pepper balls, tasers, and rubber impact rounds, all of which proved “ineffective.”
“As a final resort to protect the officers and others from injury an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the IPD said.
Inglewood Police Chief Mark Fronterotta has made no public comments on the shooting despite being present at the Hispanic Heritage Festival on Saturday. Fronterotta returned from medical leave around Sept. 12 after being off since January. There were no police-related shootings under the leadership of Acting Police Chief Cardell Hurt.

The family staged a protest in the 100 block of LaBrea Ave Sunday afternoon around the corner from Inglewood Police Department, demanding justice.
The sister of the victim shared details of what happened with those who gathered.
“I heard the shots and the officers wouldn’t allow me to go outside. I saw my brother dead on the ground. He laid there uncovered for 12 hours.”
A video shared by Inglewood Times indicated the victim was shot by officers 8 times.
The family alleges the police department knew of the victim’s history of mental illness and when asked by videographers of the scene, the person they interviewed responded “they should have known”.
The family intends to hold a press conference today announcing a lawsuit against the City and police department.
