SACRAMENTO (2UG) – CA Speaker Anthony Rivas has kept his word and appointed a legislator from South Los Angeles to a top position in the State Assembly.
Assemblymember Isaac Bryan was named the new Majority Leader in a move that has been in the works for weeks.
Bryan has shared with everyone within earshot that Rivas would be appointing him to a leadership post. Once Rivas was in the seat, Bryan heaped praise on him, while appearing to shun the outgoing Speaker Anthony Rendon as he made no fond wishes to him on his way out.
“[Rivas] he’s kind, honest, and compassionate. He moves with strength and the emotions that come with sincerity. His heart is big enough to fit all of California. We’re grateful for you, Speaker Rivas,” wrote Bryan in a social media post June 30.
The majority leader may act as Speaker pro tempore; offer resolutions affecting the operations of the House, such as establishing the hour of daily meetings of the House; perform various ceremonial duties; and support initiatives to revamp or reform the internal procedures and structures of the House.
Asm. Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) was named Speaker Pro Tempore.
