Inside Safe Operation Underway in Harbor City

LOS ANGELES – A new Inside Safe operation is underway in Harbor City to bring people inside from tents and encampments, and to prevent encampments from returning, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced Thursday.

Inside Safe is a citywide strategy to address the city’s homelessness crisis with the aim of reducing homeless encampments. Bass in a statement thanked Councilman Tim McOsker and L.A. County partners for working with her office to bring the program to Harbor City.

“We are brining Inside Safe to more and more communities to save lives and restore neighborhoods,” Bass said in a statement. “This initiative is only possible because we are locking arms with the county, service providers and the community.”

McOsker said by working together across “offices, departments and jurisdictional boundaries, we can uplift and change lives.”

“From the mayor’s office, to the county leadership, to our local provider, Harbor Interfaith Services — we collaborated over many weeks and worked together the last two days to bring Angelenos inside at two of the (15th Council District’s) largest encampments.”

This is the 18th Inside Safe encampment operation throughout the city. The mayor’s office stated the initiative has brought more than 1,200 Angelenos inside.

Bass intends for her Inside Safe program to reduce the loss of life on the streets; increase access to mental health and substance abuse treatment for Angelenos in encampments; eliminate street encampments; promote long-term housing stability for people experiencing homelessness; and to enhance the safety and hygiene of neighborhoods for all residents, businesses and neighbors.
