Inglewood community, parents invited to a day of advocacy in Sacramento

INGLEWOOD (2UrbanGirls) – Inglewood community members, parents and stakeholders are invited to attend a day of advocacy, in Sacramento, with the goal of returning local control of Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) back to the voters.

“The State has been in control of our school district for 12 years and during those 12 years our district has consistently declined, our students and school facilities have been neglected, and there has been no real effort to repay the loan owed to the state,” said Fredrisha Dixon, who is organizing the event in conjunction with Parents Voice Action. “The State/County has closed 4 of our schools in an effort to sell the land they sit on, and they plan to close and sell more of our schools, creating an Education Desert in Inglewood. This is not sustainable for our community and if we don’t put an end to the States power over our district now, things will continue to get worse.”

2UrbanGirls supports this mission because it was the issues within IUSD, and the lack of media attention from local newspapers, that this website was founded to bring more awareness to the community and voters, and not be used as a tool to promote the passage of school bonds.

“In order to win this fight we need Parents to step up. We need Family members and Educators to step up. We need Community Members and Inglewood Business Owners to step up. We need for Everyone who believes that kids in Inglewood deserve a quality and equitable education to stand with us,” said Dixon.

Inglewood voters continue to be allowed the opportunity to elect advisory board members, to the IUSD board, who serve no other purpose than posing for photos and standing by silently while the community fights to gain control back of our schools. They also spend a nice chunk of money traveling on the taxpayer’s dime.

If you wish to attend, which will only cost you your time, contact Ms. Dixon at Fredrisha@pvaction.org or at 510-203-8984.
