INGLEWOOD (SBE) – Inglewood Councilwoman Dionne Faulk and City Clerk Aisha Thompson held their 2nd Annual Women’s Rock empowerment event which cost taxpayers over $20,000.
The event was held at the Inglewood Senior Center on May 6 and was attended by Assemblywoman Tina McKinnor who served as keynote speaker and former Compton Councilwoman Michelle Chambers who is believed to be waging a campaign to succeed Senate District 35 Sen. Steve Bradford who also represents the Inglewood area.
The event included three workshops covering mental health, social media and event planning.
Invoices scheduled to be approved during the May 16 regular city council meeting include:
- $675 for a DJ
- $11,770 food for 200 attendees catered by Lavendar Blue
- $500 for photography services
- $7,800 for floral arrangements for 100 attendees, gifts for speakers and $5,000 for the attendance of speaker Mignon
Thompson requested solicitations from vendors March 15 accepting early bird vendor registration of $150, however, it is not clear what those funds would go towards considering the amounts being billed to taxpayers.
Both Faulk and Thompson are up for re-election in 2024.
