LOS ANGELES – One person was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading police on a brief chase that ended in a crash on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, forcing a shutdown of the westbound highway at the onset of the afternoon rush.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to the area near Eighth and Olive streets at 2:32 p.m. on reports of a stolen vehicle. A brief pursuit enused, ending less than five minutes later on the westbound freeway near Arlington Avenue. According to reports from the scene, the vehicle being pursued struck multiple other vehicles, but no major injuries were reported.
All westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway were closed at Arlington, causing a miles-long backup as police worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash. Police initially began allowing vehicles through the area one at a time, but the freeway was fully reopened shortly before 5 p.m.
