LOS ANGELES – A former Los Angeles Police Department officer suspected of forcibly raping a minor when he was a minor has been released from custody, the department confirmed Thursday.
Diego Jose Miranda Lopez was arrested April 20, booked at Valley Jail and was being held without bail, police said last week.
The department confirmed Thursday Lopez was no longer in custody.
“The matter that you a referring to is a juvenile matter due to the age of the accused at the time of the alleged offense,” the District Attorney’s Office told City News Service. “As in all juvenile cases we are restricted in what we can share with the public. We can say that the case was returned to the law enforcement for further investigation.”
Lopez was assigned to the LAPD’s North Hollywood Area. He resigned when he was confronted with the allegations, according to the department, which added that the alleged forcible rape occurred before Lopez was employed by the LAPD.
