SANTA MONICA – A 40-year-old man was arrested Thursday for allegedly stabbing a Santa Monica city employee at a park.
Allen Cranford Barna was arrested around 11 a.m. after being identified as a suspect in the attack, which occurred shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday in Palisades Park near the Camera Obscura art lab in the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue.
Barna was booked on suspicion of aggravated assault.
According to Santa Monica police, officers were called Wednesay morning about a person down in the park, and upon arrival, they found a city employee who had been stabbed in the upper body “when he attempted to rouse an individual sleeping in the area.”
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of a non-life- threatening injury.
It was unclear what led police to identify Barna as a suspect.
