SILVER LAKE – A woman who was shot by Los Angeles Police Department officers in Silver Lake after they say she waved what they described as a gun at them is in critical condition, authorities said Thursday.
The shooting occurred at around 8 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Sliver Lake Boulevard and Bellevue Avenue, law enforcement sources told The Los Angeles Times.
According to The Times, LAPD Officer Annie Moran said officers were responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call when they found the woman wearing a trench coat who as pointing a gun at passersby, Fox 11 reported.
The woman, who was shot in the lower body, was taken to a hospital.
The area where the woman was shot by officers is an underpass where a large homeless encampment exists.
