INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Inglewood City Clerk Aisha Thompson wants to share with the community who she admires for Black History Month at a cost of $13,000 to taxpayers.
The city council unanimously voted to approve payment of the city’s bills during the Feb. 7 city council meeting which included a $13,000 payment for radio ads from the city clerk’s office.
The expenditure was listed for a “Register to Vote” campaign.
Thompson is featured on radio spots on KJLH where she speaks of “standing on the shoulders” of civil rights activists who fought for voting rights.
She tells listeners if they want to learn more about voting rights to contact her office.
The city will be holding a runoff election on March 7 for District 1 voters only.
District 1 Councilman George Dotson was forced into the runoff after he failed to capture over 50% of the votes cast during the Nov. 8 election.
None of Thompson’s radio spots tell voters about registering to vote or about next month’s election.
Thompson’s predecessor, Yvonne Horton, used to regularly promote herself on strategically placed billboards throughout District 1 related to tax preparation services. Horton would also place weekly inspirational quotes in the Inglewood Today newspaper.
Is this the best use of taxpayer’s money?
